Project description

Insufficient seal width and shoulder to accept vehicles up to road trains. Road is displaying extensive edge break, deep drop-off and bitumen maintenance works to seal.

Proposal is to widen seal width and provide sufficient structurally sound shoulder by excavating existing shoulder, application and compaction of 100mm deep crushed gravel, widen spray seal and application of bitumen reseal the full 7 m seal width.

Total cost of proposed project is $740,048

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
