Project description

Currently the pavement width is 7m with a sealed width of approximately 4m. The road is too narrow and results in vehicular conflict when passing. The seal also need replacing as it has deteriorated beyond its useful life.

Current pavement will be widen to a 10m width, new gravel will be installed to bring the thickness of pavement to 175mm. New primer seal and 2 coat seal will be installed. Finally reinstatement of roads furniture and signs.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
