Project description

The twin cell box culvert is beyond its service life and has restricted weight limits imposed on the culvert. The new culvert will take b-double rated vehicles.

The project is install a side track, Geotech investigation, demolish and dispose the existing culvert and excavate down to the required depth for the new base slab, including a 250 mm gravel base. Ordering and purchasing of culverts is to take place also. Install box cells and headwalls, construct deck slab, tie in existing road and seal road approaches, finally remove remove side track.

Total cost of proposed project is $140,000

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
