Project description

The existing road has a very narrow seal with many sections failing due to increased heavy traffic flow and failed edges are compromising vehicle safety

Full reconstruction of 1.6 kilometres of sealed section and widening of road from existing 5.5 metre wide seal to 8.0 metre seal width. Reconstructed pavement formation to include a stabilised pavement treatment and new double coat spray seal for the wearing course

Total cost of proposed project is $1,614,938

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
