Project description

Old Coast Road has been significantly modified with the construction of the Pacific Motorway. Some sections have been re-aligned and sealed, while other sections remain as gravel road remnants of the old alignment. The subject gravel section is requiring significant regular maintenance to meet the traffic requirements of the growing population, and is the last segment of unsealed road.

Reconstruct and seal the gravel section to provide a continuous sealed road.

Total cost of proposed project is $343,200

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
