Project description

The Northern Rail Plan (NRP) now forms part of the Melbourne Northern Suburbs Rail Upgrades - Planning project, which will consider the outcomes of the NRP.

Funding

The Australian Government committed $3.45 million towards the project.

Timetable

Initial planning works commenced in late 2021. The project now forms part of the new Melbourne Northern Rail Suburbs Upgrades – Planning Project, which is expected to be completed in late 2026.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
