The Kenwick Intermodal Terminal will be developed at the Kenwick Rail Freight Facility. It will have an operational throughput capacity of approximately 170,000 to 200,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit of shipping containers annually. The development will comprise approximately 6 hectares of full container rated hardstand, 900m of train frontage standing room with contingent land for a second rail track, and associated facilities such as dedicated heavy vehicle access to and from the facility, refrigerated container racks, and fire suppression and emergency services infrastructure. The investment will enable a reduction of on-road heavy vehicle movements and associated road congestion by supporting movement of freight by rail within the Perth metropolitan area.
Benefits: Improved freight productivity and access to freight gateways. Reduced congestion and improve travel times. Improved road safety for all road users.
The Australian Government has committed $5 million towards the project.
The project commenced construction in December 2023 and was completed in late 2024.
