Project description

This project will upgrade Riverway Drive, Townsville between Allambie Lane and Dunlop Street. Works include:

- Safety upgrades on a 3.1 kilometre section between Allambie Lane and Dunlop Street
- Duplication of a 1.6 kilometre section between Allambie Lane and Hammond Way
- Three signalised intersections between Allambie Lane and Dunlop Street

Benefits

The project is expected to:

- Improve road safety for all road users
- Reduce congestion and improve travel times
- Improve efficiency and network reliability

Funding

The Australian Government has committed $76 million and the Queensland Government $19 million towards the $95 million project.

Timetable

Construction commenced in September 2027 and is expected to be completed in June 2027.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
