Project description

The first 1.47km of Gap Road has a seal width averaging 4.0-4.5m on a 6.0m formation and carries 263 vehicles per day, identified as substandard seal width for volume of traffic. Gap Road also has substandard horizontal and vertical curves with restricted visibility due to alignment and vegetation. Injury crash recorded in 2019 along the section of road proposed for widening.

Widen formation to allow for finished 7.0m sealed width plus curve widening. Scarify, spread and compact existing pavement. Apply full width granular overlay and 2 coat bitumen seal. 20 year pavement design in accordance with Austroads Pavement Design Manual. Improve pavement drainage including construction of effective table drains. Relocate utility services as required. Clear roadside vegetation to improve sight distance and clear zones. Install roadside delineation. Undertake minor land resumptions where road realignment is not economical, and reinstate property accesses to council standard.
