Project description

Narrow seal, pavement failures, edge breaks and pavement undulations resulting in poor ride quality and safety

Widen and seal existing pavement (approx. 6-7m) to min 9m to meet the increasing freight task and heavy vehicle route access. the road is currently road train rated. Works will include pavement rehabilitation to improve ride quality, drainage improvements and other road related infrastructure upgrades as required.

Total cost of proposed project is $1,804,659

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
