Project description
The Australian Government will contribute up to $10 million for a joint business case to consider the development of an intermodal terminal in Brisbane to support Inland Rail.
The Australian and Queensland governments will jointly undertake a detailed business case considering the terminal location and matters including market access/operating models, financing options and value capture opportunities.
Funding for this project has been allocated under the Major Project Business Case Fund.
Benefits
The project will develop a joint business case that will help determine the preferred delivery option for an intermodal terminal in Brisbane to support Inland Rail.
Government involvement will ensure that intermodal terminals, with sufficient capacity to accommodate double-stacked 1,800-metre trains, are available to support Inland Rail in Brisbane from the commencement of services.
Funding
The Australian Government will contribute up to $10 million for the joint business case.
Timetable
The Australian Government is continuing to work with the Queensland Government to finalise a Business Case for the South East Queensland Inland Rail Intermodal Terminal, which can be used to inform an investment decision by both governments.
This includes undertaking further work on access/operating models, freight precinct activation, infrastructure interfaces, market sounding, cost estimates, financing options and value capture opportunities. The Business Case will also need to be considered through the lens of the Queensland Government and Infrastructure Australia’s assurance processes before it is finalised.
