The Sunraysia Highway is a key north-south route in western Victoria that connects the Western Highway near Ballarat to the Calder Highway near Ouyen. It serves a number of important industries in the region such as agriculture, viticulture, food processing and winemaking, linking these industries to markets and ports in the south of Victoria and South Australia via corridors such as the Henty and Calder Highways.
The first tranche of works include:
Ballarat to Ouyen - Birchip-Rainbow Road - McLoughlans Road Intersection Upgrade - This project will upgrade the intersection of the Sunraysia Highway with Birchip-Rainbow Road and McLoughlans Road, Birchip
Ballarat to Ouyen - Scoping and Development - This project will undertake scoping work to develop a prioritised program of future projects along the Sunraysia Highway corridor.
The projects will address safety risks and improve access for High Productivity Freight Vehicles, supporting the growth of businesses and communities in the Sunraysia and Wimmera Mallee regions.
The Australian Government is contributing $29.6 million towards the corridor.
This includes $4.3 million of funding allocated for Tranche 1 projects in the 2021-22 Budget.
Projects on this corridor started scoping and development works in late 2021. Tranche 1 construction works commenced in mid 2022 and were completed in early 2023.
