Project description

This project will undertake scoping work to develop a prioritised program of works for future tranches on the Goulburn Valley Highway between Seymour and the NSW border.

Benefits

The project is expected to scope and develop projects which will improve safety for all road users, improved transport network productivity and efficiency.

Funding

The Australian Government is contributing $3 million towards the project.

Timetable

Project scoping and development works have commenced in mid-2021 and the expected completion date is mid 2026.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
