Project description

Currently the pavement width is approximately 7m with a sealed lane of a 4m width in the centre. The road is too narrow and the seal is deteriorating beyond its useful life. The narrowness of the road result in vehicular conflict when passing.

It is proposed to widen the current pavement to a width of 10m, stabilising on the pavement to a depth of 175mm and seal the new pavement with a prime coat and 2 coat seal finish. Finally, reinstatement of road furniture and signs.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
