Project description

The existing single lane steel bridge requires significant maintenance works to remain in service and to avoid the potential of having to place a load limit on the structure. The specialist resources required to undertake bridge works are not readily available within the region, hence the reason for replacing the bridge with a concrete culvert that can be delivered using local resources.

Replacement of the existing bridge structure with concrete box culverts to provide a new, low maintenance asset that will provide for two lanes of traffic.

Total cost of proposed project is $460,000

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
