Project description

This investment will upgrade approximately 32.5 kilometres of safety barriers along the median of the Mitchell and Kwinana freeways.

Funding

The Australian Government has committed $28.6 million towards the project.

Timetable

Construction commenced late 2021 and is to be completed by mid 2026.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
