Project description

Formation of road has deteriorated due to traffic. The road level is below natural surface and in a low lying area with poor drainage. The road becomes impassable in wet conditions. Roadside drainage is none existent causing deep scouring alongside of the road and certain places crossing the road. No subbase, no subgrade. Highly feeble.

To form, reshape and build the road above natural surface with natural material. This will include grading along the sides of the road to form table drains for drainage flow.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
