Project description

The existing pavement (2 coat seal) along with box culverts have deteriorated and are now insufficient for the current drainage and traffic requirements. Existing infrastructure is required to be upgraded and rehabilitated to a standard suitable for the increased traffic volumes.

Existing Box culverts will be demolished and new culverts installed. Existing sealed surface will be removed, subgrade rehabilitated and new 2 coat seal installed. Line marking and installation of new road furniture will also be undertaken as part of the upgrade works.

Total cost of proposed project is $2,086,615

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
