Project description

Ross Smith Avenue is a Primary Collector Road linking the Stuart Highway (Arterial Road) and Dick Ward Drive (Sub-Arterial Road) and has 11 recorded crashes in the previous five years. Furthermore, Ross Smith Avenue is of historical significance in being the landing site of Ross and Keith Smith in the air race from London to Australia and was also the runway for the Parap Airfield before civil operations moved to the current RAAF Base Darwin.

The works will involve the profiling to a nominal 50mm depth of the existing asphalt surface, placement of an emulsion primerseal and place a 50mm thick asphalt layer utilising the Mix Type 5 (14mm aggregates with A15E Binder) Dense Graded Asphalt as specified in the Northern Territory Government’s Standard Specification for Roadworks. Line marking will be reinstated to its existing condition and where applicable, modified to improve traffic flow on the road. Traffic Control will also be within the scope of contract works.
