Project description

This project involves the construction of a new interchange between the M1 Princes Motorway and Mount Ousley Road. The interchange will replace the existing intersection, which is a significant pinch point of the Motorway network, and currently experiences long queues and delays during peak periods. As the primary access point to Wollongong and Port Kembla, issues at this intersection also create significant flow-on effects across the wider transport network. This project will improve travel times, as well as access to the Wollongong central business district and the University of Wollongong. It will ensure safer access to and from the Motorway to Mount Ousley Road, and improve safety by separating cars and heavy vehicles travelling down Mount Ousley.

Benefits

Improved road safety for all road users Reduced congestion and improved travel times Improved efficiency and network reliability

Funding

The Australian Government has committed $312 million to this project.

Timetable

This project commenced construction late 2024. It is expected to be completed by early 2028.
