Project description
This project will deliver a long-term program of priority works between Mungindi on the New South Wales border and Charters Towers to be determined by the Australian and Queensland Governments to provide an alternative to the Bruce Highway.

The Australian Government has committed $800 million to the project.
Timetable
The Inland Freight Route 10-year Investment Strategy was completed in late 2023. Early works began in late 2023 with the Dawson River Bridge upgrade. Further works expected to begin in 2024.
