Project description

This project will upgrade Bald Nob Road between the New England Highway and the Gwydir Highway, north of Glen Innes. This is expected to include rehabilitation of around 6 kilometres of pavement on Bald Nob Road, as well as other safety improvements to bring the road up to current standards, such as widening and realignment.
This road saves 36 kilometres of travel distance for freight vehicles travelling between Brisbane and Grafton, but has deteriorated and needs to be upgraded to meet current demand.

Benefits

The project will upgrade the road to required standards, improving travel times, freight efficiency and safety for all road users.

Funding

The Australian Government has committed $4.48 million towards the Bald Nob Road upgrade, under the Investment Roads initiative. The remaining funding will be contributed by the Glen Innes Severn Council.

Timetable

The project commenced construction in mid 2023 and will be completed in mid-2025.
