Project description

This project will deliver two overtaking lanes on both the north and south bound lanes from Marong to Bridgewater and the planning and development activities for one overtaking lane southbound south of Hattah.

Benefits

This project is expected to improve road safety, traffic flow and efficiency of the Calder Highway corridor between Melbourne and Mildura.

Funding

The Australian Government is fully funding the project.

Timetable

The project is expected to commence construction in mid-2026 and will be completed by mid-2027.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
