Project description

Existing pavement has various defects including crocodile cracking, meandering cracking, ravelling and potholing. These are predominantly found along the pavement edges and along the wheel paths. Numerous patches have been added to the road with little measurable benefit. The kerb and gutter along both sides of the road is also in very poor condition.

Pavement investigations have found that defects can be attributed to the quality of the base material, inadequate pavement thickness and soft subgrade. Proposed improvements include excavation of existing road material to 270mm, in-situ stabilising 350mm of subgrade with 4.5% hydrated lime, replacement of existing road material and in-situ stabilisation with 1% 70/30 slag/lime and a 30mm AC10-AR450 wearing course. This would be supplemented with kerb and gutter replacement along both sides of the road.
