The project will progressively strengthen and widen priority single seal sections of the Gulf Developmental Road between Croydon and Georgetown, to improve road capacity, and the reliability and safety for all users.
The Gulf Developmental Road is the principal freight and tourism route connecting the Carpentaria region to coastal Queensland, via Kennedy and Bruce Highways. Although the roads are sealed, sections are only single lane, creating safety and capacity concerns for passing vehicles.
Alongside other works, the project will strengthen and widen the road between Mount Garnet and Croydon, progressively improving efficiency and safety, particularly for freight vehicles.
Improved road safety for all users, efficiency and network reliability, improved accessibility and connectivity of road networks, improved freight productivity, and access to freight gateways.
Total funding of $12.06 million (Australian Government contribution of $9.65 million, Queensland Government Contribution of $2.41 million).
The project commenced construction September 2025 and is expected to be completed late-2026.
