The project will improve a targeted section of the road to increase flood resilience and drainage, and improve reliability and safety by replacing existing culverts, and upgrading structures and approaches to the floodway. Therefore improving the route’s useability for heavy vehicles, supporting local industry and tourism growth, enabling productivity and efficiency for road users, and increasing overall road safety. The Cloncurry - Dajarra Road is a vital transport link for the movement of cattle and mining supplies through Queensland’s North-West region. It is also important for the movement of fuel, food, and freight.
Improved road safety for all users, efficiency and network reliability, and improved freight productivity.
Total funding of $17.8 million (Australian Government commitment $14.3 million, Queensland Government contribution $3.5 million).
The project is expected to commence construction in mid 2026 and be completed in mid 2027.
