Project description

Led by the Charters Towers Regional Council, the project will deliver pavement widening and sealing along Dotswood Road in the Charters Towers Region of North Queensland.
Dotswood Road is a regionally important agricultural freight road, providing access to an Australian Defence Force training facility. Traffic volumes have grown beyond the level the road was originally constructed, deteriorating its condition. This has resulted in wet weather damage, significant maintenance requirements, and delays for graziers.,
The project will improve corridor-level reliability, safety and access for all road users, and greater connectivity of livestock to market.

Benefits

Improved road safety for all users, freight productivity and access to freight gateways, improved accessibility and connectivity of road networks, and improved connectivity between people with jobs and services, and goods with markets.

Funding

Total funding of $1.80 million (Australian Government commitment $1.44 million, Charters Towers Regional Council contribution $0.36 million).

Timetable

This project commenced construction August 2025, and is expected to be completed by early-2026
