Project description

Led by Banana Shire Council, the project will upgrade approximately 18km of high priority sections of Injune Road, including pavement widening, sealing, drainage improvements, and line marking.
Sections of this road are in poor condition and impassable following wet weather. Upgrades will improve road user safety, connectivity between the communities of Injune and Taroom, and improve access for tourism, agriculture, and gas industries.
The project will improve the connectivity of all road users, particularly heavy vehicles, and facilitate economic opportunities for industries such as freight, agriculture, and gas.

Benefits

Funding

Total funding of $5.85 million (Australian Government commitment $4.68 million, Banana Shire Council contribution $1.17 million).

Timetable

The project commenced construction May 2025, and be completed mid-2026
