Project description

The project involves the upgrading of Bernera Road between Yarrawa Street and Yarrunga Street, and Yato Road, Prestons. The project will upgrade the single lane road in each direction to a divided four lane road, with installation of a shared path along the western side of Bernera Road connecting with the existing shared path north of the M7 off ramp.

Benefits

Once delivered, the road upgrade will improve traffic efficiency, reduce congestion, road safety and access.

Funding

The Australian Government funding is capped at $2,064,832.

Timetable

Construction commenced in commence in mid 2024 and will be completed in early 2026.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
