Project description

The existing road is a very rough and corrogated gravel road which requires a renewal and upgrade to bitumen seal along with multiple floodways to be installed. This will meet the current service level and is also a missing link betweeen bitumen seals. Road has a high majority of heavy vehicular traffic and requires upgrade works to meet current rural collector standards

Road widen and reconstruct in sections to a 8m pavement and a 6 metre seal

Total cost of proposed project is $1,822,527

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
