Project description

Approximately 500m long kerb & channel and 1700sqm of roads are dilapidated condition. The roads have deteriorated over the years and uneven, showing signs of failures. Vehicle crossovers damaged as well as some scraping of road pavement. There are number of steel plates placed over existing crossovers, causing drainage problems. About a quarter of the road is serviced by underground drainage system, there is no enough drainage in the street to drain the road surface runoff to underground pits and pipes.

The work involves installing new kerb and channel, reconstructing failed pavement sections, installing underground drains, filling drainage trenches and constructing pavements, providing adequate drainage to the street and asphalt surfacing.

Total cost of proposed project is $726,000

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
