Project description

This project will construct new on/off ramps for the Southern Expressway at Majors Road.

Benefits

The project will deliver:

- improved road safety;

- improved connectivity;

- improved network efficiency and resilience; and

- create active transport options for the community.

Funding

The Australian and South Australian governments are jointly funding this project on a 50:50 basis.

Timetable

This project commenced construction in early 2024 and is expected to be completed by late 2025.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
