Project description

The project will deliver targeted upgrades to key roads necessary for transporting cattle to improve the reliability, productivity and resilience of cattle supply chains in northern Australia, thereby reducing freight costs and strengthening links to markets.

Benefits

Improve freight connectivity between saleyards and processing facilities, vehicle safety and travel conditions for the transportation of livestock, and reduce the frequency and severity of road closures and vehicle maintenance costs.

Funding

Total funding of $500.07 million (Australian Government Contribution of up to $400.06 million, and Queensland Government contribution up to $100.02 million).

Timetable

The project commenced construction in October 2025 and is expected to be completed in mid 2035.
