Project description

This project involves the construction of a new road connecting the rapidly growing NSW satellite townships of Googong and South Jerrebomberra to the ACT road network.

Benefits

These improvements support regional development between the ACT and NSW and provide:

• Improved road safety for all road users.
• Reduced congestion and improve travel times.
• Improved connectivity between people with jobs and services, and goods with markets.
• Improved accessibility and connectivity of road networks.

Funding

The Australian Government has committed $65,000,000 to this project.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
