Project description

The Tasmanian Freight Rail Revitalisation Tranche 4 Off Network project will focus on asset renewal that removes single points of failure, which reduces temporary speed restrictions, risk of derailment and provides for sustainable maintenance costs. These works build on upgrades under the previous Australian Government funded program that were designed to keep the lines at an operational standard, with the objective of improving overall safety, reliability and thereby competitiveness of the rail network.

Benefits

The Project will aim to improve the freight rail services by reducing derailment risk and improving on-time running.

Funding

The Australian Government has committed $14.4 million towards the project.

Timetable

Construction commenced in August 2024 and is expected to be completed by mid-2028.
