Project description

This section of road was constructed with a pavement not built to cope with the heavy gravel and agriculture traffic nor traffic diversion from the Highway during closures for accidents, the pavement is failing under the seal, has lost shape and is breaking up.

The work involved includes some minor drainage work to provide a 5.5m wide sealed pavement within the road reserve. New gravel will be placed, compacted and sealed.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
