Project description

Existing bitumen sealed road is narrow in width creating issues for passing vehicles. Road is also showing signs of rutting and creating safety concerns for motorists.

It is proposed to widen the carriage way to 8 m with 100 mm gravel overlay and stabilization of the pavement with new 8 m bitumen seal. Council to co-contribute $250,000 from Rural Road Rehabilitation General funds.

Total cost of proposed project is $350,000

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
