Project description

Asset maintenance, ride quality and insufficient width are the main contributing factors to the inclusion of this road in the R2R Program. The existing pavement is narrow and in poor condition and requires continual maintenance repairs.

Works will include shoulder widening works along the length of the road, with culvert upgrades, completing the pavement with a full width overlay and in situ stabilisation topped with a 2 coat bitumen seal.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
