Project description

Road formation and the unsealed gravel surface is worn, degraded and losing shape. Drainage in the area is poor and aging and requires renewal and improvement of the existing roadside drainage assets and constructing of new drainage elements.

Reform and re-sheet the unsealed road formation, upgrade the roadside drainage including table drains and offshoot drains, renew existing unsealed floodway and construct new unsealed floodway. The project will be partly funded by Road Project Grant funding administered by Main Roads WA.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
