Project description

Road formation and the unsealed gravel surface is worn, degraded and losing shape. The existing roadside drainage requires reshaping and renewal. Additional funding to be provided by council funds.

Reform and re-sheet the road formation and renew the existing roadside drainage including table drains and offshoot drains. The project will be partly funded by Remote Access Road funding administered by Main Roads WA and the Shire's own source municipal funds.

Total cost of proposed project is $250,000

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
