Project description

The current unsealed road pavement on Carcuma Road is deteriorating rapidly due to high volumes of heavy vehicle traffic, creating safety hazards and placing a significant maintenance burden on the small regional council. Additionally, there are geometric safety concerns that need to be addressed, including the introduction of curve widening, super-elevation, and improved vertical alignment. Currently, access for 36.5 m vehicles is restricted by permit, limiting industry use of the road. This project aims to seal the road to a standard suitable for 36.5 m heavy vehicles, incorporating appropriate curve widening and shoulders to enhance safety and accessibility.

The work involves upgrading the road from an 8-metre-wide unsealed pavement to a 10-metre total pavement with an 8-metre seal width. This upgrade will include improved road alignment, curve widening, and enhanced safety features. Additionally, the road will be widened to accommodate 36.5 metre vehicles, with appropriate shoulders added to address geometric safety concerns. Balance of project costs being provided by Coorong District Council.

Total cost of proposed project is $1,950,000
