Project description

Deteriorated road pavement and wearing surface due to aged pavement and heavy traffic volumes. Pavement upgrades are required to cater for projected growth and extend asset life.

The bitumen resealing works are required to refresh the oxidised and aged seals, reduce cracking in the wearing surface and maintain maximum resilience in the sealed road network. High traffic roads will be resealed with crumb rubber bitumen for greater wearing surface strength. Low traffic roads will be resealed using an emulsion and fine-grained aggregate mix to reduce moisture ingress.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
