Project description

The existing pavement has been damaged by an increase of heavy vehicles, creating poor pavement. Additionally the street is a narrow industrial road with stormwater issues.

It is proposed to reconstruct 300 m of existing pavement and install kerb and gutter. Address the localised stormwater issues in the verge. Widen the existing street, upgrade the intersections of Saleyards Road and Federal Street, and the intersection of Federal Street and Matthews Street. Increase the pavement depth and create a pavement suitable for the increased number of heavy vehicles movement.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
