Project description

To increase road safety for drivers and pedestrians (predominately students and their families), traffic calming devices will be installed in response to community concerns at this location. This busy location in the community, especially before and after school, requires measures to reduce vehicle speeds and improve driver awareness. These devices aim to enhance safety in areas with high pedestrian activity or where accidents are more likely to occur. By slowing down traffic and encouraging safer driving behaviours, traffic calming measures help create a safer environment for all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists.

To install traffic calming device, raised pedestrians crossing with associated signage, over the top of existed painted zebra crossing located at entrance to State School.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
