Project description

To increase road safety for drivers and pedestrians, traffic calming devices will be installed in response to community concerns at this location. This busy location in the community, especially busy during peak tourist season and at school pickup/drop off hours, requires measures to reduce vehicle speeds and improve driver awareness. These devices aim to enhance safety in areas with high pedestrian activity or where accidents are more likely to occur. This crossing supports hospital workers and residents accessing healthcare as well as students accessing State School (Senior Campus). By slowing down traffic and encouraging safer driving behaviours, traffic calming measures help create a safer environment for all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists.

Install traffic calming device, including a raised pedestrians crossing with associated signage, on Sagaukaz Street, Bamaga over the top of existed painted zebra crossing that connects the Bamaga hospital and State School.
