Project description

Road has deteriorated with undulations, break up and potholing of the surface. Roadsides have no defined stormwater drainage.

Full digout and rebuild 410 metres of sealed road approximately 8.5 metres wide. Concrete vee drains each side of road diverting stormwater into new pits and pipework. Existing swale drains to be infilled. Forming 21 concrete driveways and crossings to replace the existing. Additional funding provided by West Tamar Council.

Total cost of proposed project is $787,000

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
