Project description

The road becomes inaccessible when the road has as little as 15 millimetres of rain on the road sue to black soil. The proposed works will allow greater access by heavy vehicles (cattle transport) and property owners year round.

Preparation light formation works followed by gravel re sheeting and sealing 1310m. 4 Stabilised and sealed drop sections(600m2) between CH 20.02Km and CH 23.80Km. The balance of this jointly funded project with R2R will be paid by council.

Total cost of proposed project is $400,000

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
