Project description

Problem being addressed is a culvert that has been partially washed out, doesn't meet required stormwater capacity and flood immunity for local access requirements. Work proposed is to install an increased size pipe and new headwalls, add a new flow resistant concrete deck and scour protection. Proposal is to replace the current 450 RCP pipe and two temporary PVC pipes with a new 1200 culvert installation. Will raise the current road surface to reduce saturation in flood events while the water dissipates.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
