Project description

Problem being addressed is a narrow approaching road to the railway crossing that is also in poor condition creating a dangerous uneven and slippery surface limiting stopping control and distance.

Works proposed are to widen the approaches from both sides and replace the existing road pavement and road surface - Other funding behind the project $72,130 is an approved TfNSW Grant called the Level Crossing Improvement Program

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
