Project description

The Bratten Way Rehabilitation & Upgrade project will rehabilitate 2.0 km of Bratten Way damaged by an ever-increasing freight task. The proposed works for Bratten Way, spanning the Hundreds of Cummins, Mitchell, and Kiana, involve upgrading the road’s pavement and geometry to improve its integrity and safety for heavy freight, tourism, and commuter use. The project will strengthen the pavement by overlaying the existing surface with Class 1 Crushed Rock in accordance with Department of Infrastructure & Transport specifications, with overlay depths varying between 190 mm and 400 mm based on existing pavement conditions. Lane widths will be increased to 3.5 metres, with 1.0 metre sealed and 0.5 metre unsealed shoulders, enhancing road safety and usability. The upgrades are designed to enable future gazettal of Bratten Way as a Higher Mass Limit (HML) route, while optimising pavement thicknesses to reduce construction costs by leveraging the remaining strength of the existing road. Council/s contribution: $655,000.00
